Brother Tom's Sermons

“Form...Or Fire?”

Sometimes I find that my heart’s grown cold,
And I seldom shed a tear;
It seems like my passion for life’s all run out,
Leaving me oh so vulnerable to fear.

I still remember the times in days gone by,
When I marveled at God’s mighty power;
But, somewhere along the line it seems,
That I’ve grown powerless and turned quite sour.

There were those times when I used to sing
Of God... and His workings in me;
But, now, too often my lips are silent,
And I wonder, “How did this get to be?”

It’s in those moments when I quietly reflect,
That I hear His voice so clear;
He says, “My child, the problems in your life right now,
Are because you forgot to draw near.

“You allowed yourself to get preoccupied
With the cares and thrills of this life;
So, now you live with the ‘form’, but no fire,
And often engage in strife.

“Return to Me,” the still, small Voice does say
As I listen on bended knee;
“Your fire is gone and your eyes are dry,
Because you strayed so far away from Me.

“Come home, My child,” He whispers so quietly
As my tears begin to fall;
“Come home and let Me guide your life,
Your hopes and dreams and all.”

How sad it is when we mistake
The ‘form’ for Heaven sent fire;
We live our lives in a hollow shell,
Instead of with power for each and every hour.

Now is the time to stop the pretense,
And return to your dear Friend;
He’ll renew your joy...restore your faith,
And give you power ‘till the very end.
