Brother Tom's Sermons

“And when James, Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the
grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands
of fellowship, that we should go unto the heathen and they unto the circumcision.”
Galatians 2:9

“On Giving Our Hand To A Brother”
When God created all that is
And formed the human body,
He gave us hands among other things
To do what’s good, not naughty.

What a wonderful “tool” is the human hand,
When complete in every way;
It can hammer a nail or play harmonious notes
More beautifully than one can say.

A hand can also strike a blow
If danger should appear,
While also offering assistance to one in need
Whenever an opportunity draws near.

Yet, too often we forget the truth
That the hand’s controlling “start”
Is not the muscle or a nerve—
But is really an issue of the heart.

Yes, it’s in the heart that the decision is made
On whether to help a brother;
It’s in the heart that love or anger reside,
Controlling our actions toward another.

That’s why our hearts must be given to Christ,
Allowing Him to control—
For otherwise our hands are closed
And fierce—like an army on patrol.

Only Christ’s love can soften a heart,
Causing us to extend a hand—
A hand of love that reaches to help
Someone who’s sometimes difficult to understand.

A Christlike hand is a loving hand,
That helps others, wherever they be;
It has no eyes that condemn or criticize,
But always helps others come to Him so they can be free.
