“And Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘What will you that I should do unto you?’
The blind man said unto Him, ‘Lord, that I might receive my sight’.”
Mark 10:51
“What Do You Need From Me?”
A solitary, old manbeside the highway begging,
With eyes, he could not see;
Each day he’d sit and ask for alms
For a few coins, whatever they might be.
So many days he’d sat there alone,
So many days and hours;
He’d been blind so long that it was all he knew
And for healing“Why, there’s no such power!”
But, one day in the distance he heard the din
Of the crowd as they drew near;
Someone cried, “It’s Jesus, I think. . .”
And, suddenly, Bartimaeus’ ears for sure did hear:
“It’s Jesus! It’s Jesus! The One from Galilee!
He’s come to our town today.
Why, He’s stopping and talking to the boys and girls
And many others along the way.”
Without hesitation the blind beggar cried aloud,
“Oh, Jesushave mercy on me!
Draw near to me, O Son of God;
Please help meI want to see!!”
But, in the crowd the noise was great
And Jesus could not hear;
So still louder Bartimaeus cried
Until His disciples brought him near.
“What do you need from Me?” the Master asked
As the sightless man fell down helplessly,
“Oh, dear Lord, I only desire to receive my sight,
If you wouldplease help me to see!”
And, with love and great simplicity
The Master spoke these very tender words,
“Go home, my child, you’re now made whole,
Because your fervent prayer has been heard.”
