“But I am
poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks upon me.
You are my help and my deliverer; make no
tarrying, O my God.”
Psalm 40:17
Throughout our
lives we work so hard
To try and get
ahead;
Some even strive for glory and fame
So others will
remember them after they’re dead.
But, sadly, in
the midst of such quests and striving
No peace-of-mind
we find;
There is no
love, joy, hope or true meaning in life
From the things
that one day we’ll leave behind.
That’s why it’s
good for us to stop and remember
Our condition
and God’s supply:
We’re poor and
needy, but He is not—
And always ready
to help us from on high.
Regardless of
how much money we have
Or how many
houses, clothes or land,
The truth
remains we’re poor and needy
And need help
from God’s own hand.
Money cannot buy
us a good night’s sleep
Or erase our
guilt and fears;
It cannot ease a
troubled heart
And wipe away
our tears.
Only the
Heavenly Father can do that
By His
condescending love
As He bends down
low to meet our needs
From His
unlimited supply up above.
Yes, poor and
needy. . .poor and needy
That’s really
what we are each hour;
And only when we
pray and acknowledge this
Do we experience
God’s love and power.
Help us this
day, Oh Lord of life,
Upon You to cast
our all—
For we are
powerless to live without Your aid
As on Your dear
name we do call.
