“What
is Man"
“What is man,
that You are mindful of him? And the son of
man, that You visit him?”
Psalm 8:4
When I pause to reflect on
all God has done—
All the things
that He has wrought,
It humbles me to
know that He loves me
And by His Son’s
blood my salvation is bought.
With words He
created all that is. . .
The stars, the
moon and the sun;
With Celestial
design He fashioned them all
Because He’s the
Almighty Three-in-One.
That’s why the
psalmist did ask the Lord
The question in
every heart:
“What is man,
that You are mindful of him
And loved us
from the very start?
“You knew we
would sin and turn our backs on You
Before the
worlds came to be;
Why, then, did
You still make us—
Knowing we’d run
away from Thee?”
Yes, “What
is man?” is the question we must ask
When our
thoughts turn upward to God;
It’s beyond our
minds why He’d still continue on
By making the
first man out of the earth’s firm sod.
At first there’s
silence from Heaven’s side
As we ponder our
Creator’s deed;
But when we
think of the coming of His Son, Jesus Christ,
We know He came
to save those in need.
What sin
defiled, the Savior healed
When He died on
the Cross that day;
He bore our sins
and paid the price
By becoming the
Truth, the Life and the Way.
How humbling it
is to know how great
Is the Father’s
love for man.
As we think of
this and all He’s done,
May we willingly
surrender to His magnificent plan.
